Association Open Days: FabLab Croatia opened its doors to a world of innovation, technology and creativity
As part of the national event Association Open Days, held every year across Croatia to bring the work of civil society organisations closer to the public, on 12 June 2026 the FabLab Croatia Association hosted students interested in modern technologies, STEM fields and innovative forms of learning.
During the open day, the students had the chance to see at first hand the work of the association, its projects, its educational programmes and the equipment used every day to develop creativity, technical skills and innovative thinking. Particular emphasis was placed on how pupils, students and any interested members of the public can get involved in the activities FabLab runs throughout the year.
With an expert tour led by association president Roberto Vdović, participants went round the laboratory and got to know the many areas FabLab works in – from digital fabrication and 3D modelling to robotics, biomaterials development and experimental learning methods. Demonstrations of 3D printers, laser systems and other advanced technologies showed how ideas are turned into concrete prototypes and functional solutions.
The robot dog also drew particular attention, showing through an interactive demonstration what modern robotics and autonomous systems can do. Alongside numerous 3D-printed models, prototypes and innovative projects, the students could explore how new technologies find applications in education, science and everyday life.
The programme was designed as a combination of education and hands-on experience, allowing participants to see technology not merely as a tool but as a space for exploring, creating and developing ideas of their own. Through direct contact with the equipment and with experts, the students gained insight into digital fabrication processes and into the opportunities STEM offers young people and the wider community.
Meetings like this contribute to the popularisation of science and technology, spark interest in STEM and create an environment in which learning becomes interactive, inspiring and connected to the real challenges and needs of society.
This year again, the Association Open Days showed how important civil society organisations are for the development of the local community, and FabLab Croatia once more confirmed its role as a place where knowledge, innovation and creativity meet. 🙂
