As part of the “Science Connecting People” project, civil society organisations working in the STEM field are being mapped, with the aim of creating a directory that will help strengthen the capacities of and cooperation between civil society organisations, and support joint action in shaping public policy in the STEM field.

This activity is carried out by the FabLab association, the project lead, together with the partner association Croatian Interdisciplinary Society. During 2021, more than 1,600 civil society organisations active in the STEM field were mapped. Information about which organisations work in the STEM field was gathered by consulting the Register of Associations, by collecting suggestions from members of the project consortium, and by gathering information from websites and social media.

In order to verify how active civil society organisations are in the STEM field and whether they are interested in being included in the directory, two questionnaires were created and sent online to the civil society organisations mapped so far as working in the STEM field / having part of their activities in this field / being interested in including STEM activities in their work.

182 organisations responded to the first questionnaire, 78% of which had touched in their activities on topics in the natural sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics, i.e. the STEM field.

The civil society organisations that responded to the first questionnaire, confirmed that they work in the STEM field and expressed an interest in joining the directory were then sent a second questionnaire, which provides a more detailed insight into their activities, interests and needs.
