Cultural awareness and creative and artistic expression are among the key competences of the concept of lifelong learning and of functioning in society. Culture and art are of exceptional importance for quality of life, while a lack of cultural and artistic content, or the inability to access it, reduces people’s social interaction, weakens their sense of belonging and has a negative effect on their psychophysical health.
Over the past year, access to cultural and artistic content has also been significantly affected by the restrictions and measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as by the consequences of the earthquakes in some parts of the country, which have left many institutions destroyed or unsafe to use.
On 24 March 2021, the HERMES association signed a tripartite grant agreement with the Ministry of Culture and Media and the National Foundation for Civil Society Development, within which the FabLab association acts as the main partner and coordinator of activities.
The project “Virtual Art and Culture” is financed within the “Art and Culture Online” call from the European Social Fund, under the Operational Programme Efficient Human Resources.
The total value of the project is 499,509.36 kuna, and the aim of the project is to contribute to increased participation and active engagement of primary school pupils across Croatia in interactive cultural and artistic activities. The project will develop and deliver participatory workshops linking history, art, science and skills acquisition through the use of contemporary technology. By actively taking part in the workshops, pupils will develop their creativity and become (co-)creators of the content of two performances.
The target group of the project is primary school pupils, and the workshops will be adapted to age groups (years 1–4, years 5 and 6, and years 7 and 8). At least 500 pupils from at least 7 different counties will be included in the project activities.
