🔹DiSTT Module 2 at Gimnazija “Matija Mesić” – from 2D pattern to spatial form🔹 On 20 March 2026 we held, with group B at Gimnazija “Matija Mesić” in Slavonski Brod, the first meeting of Module 2 – “Patterns with purpose – 2D patterns” as part of the DiSTT project. During the session they covered the basics of 2D and 3D representation, got to know the notion of the 2D pattern and 2D digital fabrication, and through examples discussed technologies such as laser cutting and engraving, vinyl cutters and plotters. A particular emphasis was placed on understanding how a functional spatial form can be developed out of a flat element. In the practical part they: engraved and cut demonstration pieces on the diode laser on their own, assembled an armchair from pre-prepared 2D parts, thereby linking 2D elements with 3D form, and explored the moiré effect through overlapping, shifting and rotating patterns, and began thinking about their own ideas, which they will develop further through 2D technologies. For independent work between meetings they chose to work on technical sketches of their own ideas, which will serve as preparation for next time, when they will start transferring those projects into software and preparing them for further digital processing. Throughout, they will have mentor support as needed. The next step will be the move from sketch to digital preparation for fabrication.
