FabLab Hrvatska supports Q’ART Sesvete in the former Sljeme factory building

Today FabLab Hrvatska supported Q’ART Sesvete in the former administrative building of the old Sljeme factory. It was also a chance to show the mayor, the deputy mayor and other city representatives, as well as the other residents who came to see us, working together with Luka Primary School, a small part of what even temporary use of that building could look like – perhaps as a future Fablab Sesvete – and to say something about the projects we run, such as Interreg Central Europe DISTT and STEMerica goes on, but also the Centrinno EU Project, which was precisely about transforming this building into HUB_S, an innovative and creative community centre, as well as Fab City Zagreb as part of the Fab City Global Initiative. Although the Centrinno project finished more than a year ago, it was right at the end of that project, for just a few days on 2–5 January 2024, that the building was first opened for this kind of use; today it was on a far larger scale, thanks to Sljeme za sve, the Zelene i plave Sesvete association and all the hard-working people of Sesvete who showed an interest and joined the process. Today (and tomorrow) as part of Projekt Ilica: Q’ART in Sesvete, the programme has been extended with other content as well. After today’s visit by the mayor, it is worth hoping that these occasional short events will enrich the lives of Sesvete’s residents over the longer term, through continuous use of the building for creative content. The many questions today about where one can join in may soon get an answer. For FabLab this is also part of the work we do across Croatia on building local ecosystems for STEM as a driver of development, within the Thematic Systemic Support, by backing events and, above all, local communities. See you again tomorrow in Sesvete!
