Transformations: from POU Zagreb towards a Fab City Zagreb Experience Lab

FabLab Zagreb has for several years been working with prof. Helena Schultheis Edgeler and the students of Tekstilno-tehnološki fakultet on the theme of biomaterials and digital fabrication, which was also the theme of the BIOPLAnet project on which we likewise collaborated.

Since last year we have been directing part of our Fab City Zagreb activity towards Pučko otvoreno učilište Zagreb, with whom we have already had several collaborations in 2025. First, an exhibit from the STEMerica project (carried out between 2021 and 2023) was installed at POU Zagreb, having previously been on show in the atrium of the Zagreb City Administration. Then we organised the @WBDS (Western Balkans Design Sprint) session there with representatives from Indiana University, attended by around 20 teachers from the region, and finally the public event Maker Expo Zagreb 2025. Hosting this exhibition at POU Zagreb is part of a collaboration that should culminate in the opening of a Fab City Zagreb Experience Lab at POU Zagreb, as part of a year-round programme of cultural and educational content on Fab City themes.

Bringing POU Zagreb into what we do is part of the wider theme of building local ecosystems that FabLab pursues through the “Thematic Systemic Support for STEM as a driver of development” of the National Foundation for Civil Society Development
